For a few months I'm using the SX350 in wooden box and it is my PRIMARY household mod. It is just PERFECT, actually with no drawbacks. But why "household"?? Because it is powered by 26650 battery, and therefore is quite big. So what for outside? Maybe SX350's younger brother the SXmini? Let's see...
1. The FINISH.
It's (almost) TERRIFIC. The first thing that comes to mind after taking it to the hand is "a solid piece of iron" - I don't know of which is made housing, but there is no comparison to eg. clone boxes made of film thickness aluminum. And the most interesting is that at the same time box remains extremely ergonomic - like a tailor-made. Below you can see the SXmini in my (not very big) hand:2. FEATURES.
Here is very good:* 60W of power - more than enough for me,
* min. resistance - 0.15 ohms (!),
* measurement of the resistance,
* measurement of the battery voltage without load,
* measurement of the battery voltage under load,
* "hot-start" modes,
* measurement of the total power output for the installed battery.
If you look at the display:
You can see all of these parameters at once, the display shows 6 different parameters at the same time - a revelation to me! You don't have to click and click and click... to eg. measure the resistance - NICE!
3. VOLTAGE SHAPE.
My typical test set-up with 1 ohm power resistor connected to the CLT atomizer (instead of coil) and Tektronix TPS2012 oscilloscope:And the RESULTS:
As you can see only at 10W voltage needs some time (about 0,1s) to reach required level (it is typical for SX chips), further is rock-stable.
* theoretical voltage what should be on the coil for a given power (calculated according to the P=U^2/R formula),
* real voltage MEASURED on the atomizer pins by use of multimeter.
4. EFFICIENCY.
Having the setup with 1 ohm resistor we can also check if we get what we set. Below I compared:* theoretical voltage what should be on the coil for a given power (calculated according to the P=U^2/R formula),
* real voltage MEASURED on the atomizer pins by use of multimeter.
5. STARTUP MODES
We have 3 startup modes and the best will be to see them on the charts:As we can see:
* STANDARD mode gives regular voltage,
* SOFT mode - voltage is reduced by 1V for a second from the start,
* POWERFUL mode - voltage is increased by 1V for a second from the start.
6. DRAWBACKS?
Only minor...
a) 510 connector:
The look of the plus pin suggests that it is regulated BUT IT IS NOT, and if you try to turn it you can damage it.
b) Covering - it looks cool, is cool to the touch, but its durability is not so promising:
After 2 weeks of careful use...
7. SUMMARY
In my opinion SXmini is one of the best mod for single 18650 battery. I use it since 3 months and still it is my primary mod for outside.
For very reasonable price we get the mod which is better than for example PV3 and The Eye put together!
